HELP, ALGEBRA II PROBLEM!!!!?

Here's the problem: You need to make a necklace. String costs 1.50, a package of 10 decorative beads cost .50 and a package of plain beads of 50 cost .75. You can spend a total of only $7 and need 150 beads. How many packages of each type of bead should you buy?

Can someone please help me out to figure out this problem and/or inlcuding steps with the answer. Thank You guys so much =)

You definitely need one piece of string (and only one) so that's $1.50 already spent, leaving you $(7-1.5) = $5.50 to spend on beads.

Presumably you want to put as many decorative beads as possible into your necklace, so first, how many can you afford?

With your remaining $5.50, you could get 11 packets of decorative beads ($0.50*11=$5.50), which means you could get 110 decorative beads. Unfortunately you need 150 beads in total so you can't make this necklace entirely out of decorative beads. You need another 40, but have no money left.

So instead of 11 packets, what if you had only 10? That would be $5 in total, which gives you $0.50 change - not enough for any plain beads.

9 packets of decorative beads? That's $4.50 and leaves you with 1 dollar change, which is enough to buy a packet of plain beads.
