High school purse? And school bag?

So I'm starting high school soon and I wanted to know if freshman carried purses? And if they do I was thinking of getting the Marc by Marc Jacobs classic q hillier hobo purse. Is it okay to carry around such a big purse? And is having a designer purse okay? Also, what kind of school bag should I use to carry everything in? Do most people use backpacks or totes? I used to have a vera bradley tote but it got stolen so I was thinking of using this:

Having finished freshman year myself, I can pretty much ascertain nobody will care what kind of brand your bag is. If it's important to you, you can get a marc jacobs, but don't expect many people to recognize the brand. This will probably depend on what kind of school you go to and who your classmates are, but hand bags have been "out" since middle school for me. However, Vera Bradley bags are huge at my school and people seem to be able to manage and fit all of their stuff in the Vera by Vera Bradley tote just fine.
Also, keep in mind you will be expected to lug around a few of your textbooks so carrying a purse may just be inconvenient. Besides, what do you need in your purse that you can't fit inside a decently-sized backpack?
If you have a heavy course load like myself( AP US History and 2 language classes and only 1 elective) you might consider getting a sturdy backpack. Jansport makes pretty good ones and I recently purchased a High Sierra one because there is a special space for a laptop (not that a freshman will need to bring one to school).
Bags and backpacks are completely your choice. As long as it's sturdy and you like it, it will get he job done for freshman year. Because each high school is different, you should see what kind of bag is suited for you.
