Leather bag cleaning help!?

I was trying to clean my calfskin bag today and 2 of the leather cleaners I used made my bag darker :S
My bag is light brown and when I used the cleaner on a small spot it turned burnt brown...
How do I clean calfskin? and what can I do to cover the dark spots caused by leather cleaners?
and approximately how much would it cost to send it to leather repair?

More than likely, the cleaner worked fine. The leather will go back to the original color as it absorbs the oil. Remember, leather is cow or calf skin. Just rub the cleaner all over to get it even. When it absorbs the oil, it will be fine. Next time, you could wash it with soap and water........like you do your skin. The only trick is that it will shrink as it drys, so you have to stretch it while it drys. Perhaps stretch it over a frame to shape it. A professional cleaner will charge big bucks and guarantee nothing. I have even washed swead vests in a washing machine. No harm done. Just stretch when drying.
