When you go on vacation or a business trip, sometimes you don't want to skimp out on the hotel. You want to enjoy the luxury of it all and be waited on hand and foot. You want to indulge a bit. But what should you be looking for in a luxury hotel, besides, just a hefty price tag? Sometimes price does not dictate beautiful accommodations and good customer service.

It's true that the "big names" like the Four Seasons or anything with Trump in the title, are going to be first class hotels. However, you can still find little gems that offer a much better experience than a motel located near an airport. When searching online, always check out pictures of all the rooms. Sometimes they may not do the room justice, but you can tell the difference between a nicely decorated one and a plain one. Do you notice a large desk, complete with a leather desk blotter? Does the bathroom have a jacuzzi tub and is there a down comforter and satin sheets adorning your bed? Is there a plastic ice bucket or a silver champagne bucket?

Next you want to consider the amenities. The more the amenities, the better your hotel probably is. Look for swimming pools, a fitness center, spa, and five star restaurants located on the premise. Can you order room service and have delicious food brought to you on a silver room tray? A cheaper hotel is going to simply offer a free buffet of bagels and muffins before 10 am. But in a luxury hotel, you'll have to pay extra for that one. It'll be worth it though for the filet mignon brought up to you on the room tray. Don't forget about the super soft bathrobe and slippers. A truly wonderful hotel will provide these for all of their guests. Just don't be tempted to steal them, or the desk blotter or anything else that seems valuable.

Everything always comes down to location, location, location. The hotel by the airport might seem a bit nice because you'll be so close by, but the noise makes it not so great. A good hotel will be located in the heart of the city or just a few minutes from it. Major attractions should be within walking distance or just a short drive away. However, you can still find beautiful hotels located a bit farther away, which will most likely cost a lot less. Just don't go too far out of your way or you'll end up spending more on cab fare.

Finally, you can tell the difference between a fancy hotel and a simple one just by reading customer reviews. When you use travel booking sites, like Expedia or Travelocity, you can read hundreds of reviews by real people who stayed in the hotel. They will also allow users to rate on a scale of 1 to 5 how good the service was, how clean the hotel was, if the amenities were good, etc. Most people will be fairly straightforward and say if this hotel was the epitome of luxury or a sketchy place they wish to avoid for all eternity.
