To begin with, torque converters are filled with automatic transmission fluid which enables it to transmit the power from the engine to the transmission. Torque converters also serve as engine flywheel that smoothes out engine rotation. Its inertia is what helps maintain the crankshaft rotation between the power pulses of the car's piston. Torque converters, through the transmission fluid, are also the ones absorbing the torsion vibration form the engine and drivetrain. The fluid is used as the medium since there is no direct mechanical connection between the engine and converter.

In addition to all of these, the torque converter's rear hub operates the transmission oil pump. This action provides fresh volume of fluid to the hydraulic system. The engine rotates, every time the pump turns. This is crucial when your car is being towed along the streets of Tampa. Just so you know, the axles drive the transmission output shaft whenever the vehicle is towed with the drive wheels on the ground and the engine is not running. The axles also drive the intermediate shaft on bearings that do not receive lubrication. Without the converter, it is dangerous to tow the vehicle in great distances or lower speeds.

1. The torque converter multiplies torque generated by the car engine.
2. The torque converter serves as an automatic clutch which passes on engine power to the transmission.

5. Lastly but not the least, the torque converter drives the oil pump of the hydraulic control system.

I want to get an 89 mazda rx7 but it needswork. The body is in mint condition convertible. what should i do?

It needs a clutch starter battery and breaks. a friend also mentioned that the engine seals often went bad in those cars. How do i know if the seals are leaking if i cant' start it

like evey1 said b4 me battery/starter 1st then u will know what 2do then. U can buy reman engine like i did from Mazda bout 2500 but its ur choice. How much did u paid 4 the car anyway then u can say is it worth ur wild to continue. But 1 thing its a CONVERTIBLE thats the good thing u got going on. Oh i 4got u can do the Transmission treatment by pouring a little into the intake to seal the seals it works i did it and u will have a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust but once its burned off its gone.
