Contact Lenses Or Eye Glasses?

And so the debate goes on as to whether contact lenses or eye glasses are the better choice. Both have their advantages over the other and both have their disadvantages and it is important to review these advantages and disadvantages because the eyes are very important in this seeing world that requires vision for proper function. If we cannot see properly, then we easily miss things, have difficulty reading, or can become seriously injured when in hazardous conditions. So as you can see, both have their advantages over the other. Contacts are not fool proof, but they are nice to have. Then again, the glasses are there to save the day if something goes wrong with the contacts. The debate may continue with some, but it is obvious to see that they can work hand-in-hand.

How to prevent the nose pads on my eye glasses to turn greeenish?

I wear eye glasses. My nose pads turn greenish in color because of sweat. What to do? Is there a lotion or cream I have to use to stop this?

Yes, the green color is usually a result of your skin reacting to nickel and other inexpensive metals that most (not all) frames are made out of.

You can do one of three things:

You can look for frames that are either titanium or stainless steel, although some people can still have a reaction to stainless. Stainless can still corrode, but titanium usually clears this right up. I have yet to have a patient who cannot wear titanium.

You could also opt to go with a plastic or zyl frame. This eliminates the possibility of any metal coming in contact with your face and therefore, gets rid of the corrosion problem.

Lastly, you could have your frame poly-coated. Its a clear coating that your frame is dipped in (before putting the lenses in.) It covers the entire frame and puts a thin, clear coating between you and the metal on the frame. But this is not a permanant fix; eventually the coating will wear through and you'll have to have it reapplied.

My husband has this problem with his frames. He is so sensitive that even his belt buckle corrodes and gives him a rash. Where the metal bridge touches his nose, he gets a sore patch and I put clear nail polish on the bridge every few months and works fine. We did not know he had a nickel allergy when we picked out his glasses. So now I know for next time to get him a titanium frame. That's usually the way to go.
