What's causing a buzz this spring?

As the sun finally breaks through the clouds in promising signs for spring, its glow isn't the only bright light adorning the catwalks and high streets for the coming months.

 

Spring fashions will liven up those wardrobes with a kaleidoscope of colours set to infuse your ensembles.  From the simple tee to leg loving shorts, vibrant hues will have us all reaching for our sunnies.

 

Layering will still be a big part of designer fashion with t-shirts, tanks and vests forming the basis of most outfits for both men and women.  Shouting loud are the bold designs of Katie Eary and her patriotic British take, the neon brights of Karen Millen, psychedelic offerings from Something Else and one of the Fashion Forward 2011 winners at London Fashion Week, Meadham Kirchhoff.  The sheer range of different fits from snug to oversized and the scope of necklines this season will set you apart with anything from cowl to basic v.

 

The nautical theme will also still be a big draw with interesting takes and different variations of the bold Breton stripe lining most collections and every high street window including examples from Vivienne Westwood, Clements Ribeiro and the traditional French chic of Sessun.  This mariner homage has brought back a range of classic shoes, pumps and sandals that will set the look off from Tabitha Simmons' striped canvas to retro Converse and N.D.C's boat shoes.  With footwear highlighted in designer men's fashions from smart chino shorts and tailored turn-ups in womenswear in playful materials such as silk and leather.

 

Leather will also be featured heavily in two other themes this spring.  The first sits alongside the zips of biker boy chic in men's designer fashion from the likes of Burberry Prorsum, who were also making sure designer womenswear isn't left out of the trend.  The second sees the wild kingdom still enjoying its worship with the assortment of designs broadening.  From the safari chic of Aquascutum to the rawhide cowgirls of Ashish or the bold yet elegant stylings of Basso & Brooke to the everyday cool of Kookai, these designs have taken on new life.  Inspiring jackets can be seen from the classy Betty Jackson's oversized collar fur coat in one of this season's big colours of chartreuse and the cropped and feathered royal blue from Felder Felder.  ‘Cat Eye' sunglasses that invoke a glamour puss 50's/60's vibe are catching the attention from Jeremy Scott and Giles Deacon while ballerina flats come in patent-python from Lanvin or leopard print from Miu Miu.

 

Whether faux or real, fur was clearly still enjoying its revival and most notably in the season's absolute must-have of the Prada stole.  This sumptuous and versatile fox fur essential presents a high colour vs bold stripe design and comes in a range of vibrant shades set to be signature colours this spring, such as stark orange, bright pink, teal and a range of blues and greens.  Already a favourite on the celebrity circuit, this instantly recognisable bumble bee-like accessory is set to be the real buzz this spring.
