Can I decorate my living room space with both a recliner and an accent chair?

I just bought a gorgeous brown distressed leather Bernhardt sectional with a matching recliner that my husband HAD to have. Not crazy about it, but since he is, we're keeping it. I'm new to decorating (first home) and I'm wondering if a recliner and an accent chair can be placed in proximity of each other with an accent table separating them. I don't want to overwhelm the space, yet add some sophistication and contrast to the dark leather. Opinions? Suggestions?

Yes you can make it work.

First, think complement, not match. A well designed room really reflects the people that live there. You were right to get the chair if your husband loved it. Now, you can complement it with another piece that fits another aspect of your lives.

The accent chair should be a similar scale. If the leather chair is large, the accent chair shouldn't be tiny, or you can get 2 smaller accent chairs. Think of balancing the room. Also, pay attention to seat height and arm height. It can look goofy to have massive Mc-mansion furniture, next to urban apartment style furniture.

I like the idea of adding contrast to the dark leather, a floral or geometric lighter print can do that for you.
