how do I convince my kitty Im not mad at her for having mud butt?

earlier she almost knocked me over running to the litter box and she made it in a nick of time. Things got out of hand and she didn't know what to do so she used my bath mat as tp. When I caught her she looked so sad and I told her it was ok and cleaned her up and threw out the mat. Now shes looking at me with the "im so sorry" look and I can't get her to calm down.

Her "I'm so sorry" look may be a "something's wrong" look instead. Also, not being able to calm down in addition to the diarrhea it sounds like she had may be indicators that something is wrong with your kitty. I would make an appointment to take her to see the vet and take a fresh stool sample with you so they can test it for internal parasites.
