Why do people make horizontal striped clothes in sizes larger than smalls or mediums?

I think a better question is why do people larger than smalls or mediums actually buy horizontal stripes
Actually, my 6 foot tall friend wears mediums. Shirts are longer these days, unlike the 90's. So that's wrong.
