Why does 2 Peter 1:19 read differently in the NWT than in other Bibles?

There's a subtle shade of difference. Can you see it?

Consequently we have the prophetic word made more sure; and you are doing well in paying attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and a daystar rises, in your hearts.

But it goes to Abernathy the Dull because of his additional scriptural support. At the mouth of two witnesses . . . reads the Mosaic law . . . and Abernathy gave two: Numbers and Revelation.

The meaning is different, depending on where the comma is. Either the prophetic word is shining in a dark place, our hearts; or the day star is rising in our hearts. Both renditions are allowable with the current understanding of biblical Greek. So which translation is most accurate?

The translators need to take context into consideration. They also need to determine what the apostle Peter had in mind when he was referring to the "daystar." Numbers 24:17 says a star would rise out of Jacob, referring to the Messiah. Also, Revelation 22:16 refers to Jesus as the bright morning star. Jesus does not "rise" in anyone's heart, but the word of God does shed light on dark hearts. Also, seekers of truth realize that the sole purpose of prophecy was to reveal how the Messiah would, not rise in people's hearts, but accomplish God's purpose.
