Just as Venus's direction of rotation is an exception, since it is reverse that of the rest of the planets, how are the following characteristics and things exceptions and how did the irregularity come about?

1. Size and density of the Moon.
The Giant Impact Hypothesis is currently the best explanation available for the formation of our moon. The Earth has a large iron core, but the moon does not. This is because Earth's iron had already drained into the core by the time the giant impact happened. Therefore, the debris blown out of both Earth and the impactor came from their iron-depleted, rocky mantles. The iron core of the impactor melted on impact and merged with the iron core of Earth, according to computer models.

2. Lack of nitrogen on Mars.
Only about 3% of Mars' atmosphere is nitrogen. Seeing as Mars no longer has a magnetic field most of it's atmosphere was blown off by solar wind, leaving behind a thin layer of CO2. Some of the remaining nitrogen could be buried within the regolith as nitrates and ammonium salts. Nitrate would probably be stable in the highly oxidized surface soil of Mars and could have served as an NO3− sink. Such accumulations are observed in certain desert environments on Earth.

3. The existence of the asteroid belt.
It's pretty much leftover material from the formation of the solar system. It never got the chance to coalesce into a planet due to gravitational interactions from Jupiter's proximity.

4. The four large Galilean Moons
Jupiter's regular satellites are believed to have formed from a circumplanetary disk, a ring of accreting gas and solid debris analogous to a protoplanetary disk. They may be the remnants of a score of Galilean-mass satellites that formed early in Jupiter's history. Simulations suggest that there may have been several generations of Galilean-mass satellites in Jupiter's early history. Each generation of moons would have spiraled into Jupiter, due to drag from the disk, with new moons then forming from the new debris captured from the Solar nebula.

5. Saturn's Rings
Saturn's rings may be very old, dating to the formation of Saturn itself. There are two main theories regarding the origin of Saturn's rings. One theory is that the rings were once a moon of Saturn whose orbit decayed until it came close enough to be ripped apart by tidal forces. The second theory is that the rings were never part of a moon, but are instead left over from the original nebular material from which Saturn formed. New material for the rings is produced by moons such as Enceladus through cryovolcanism. Saturn also has "shepherd" moons (Pandora and Prometheus), small moons that orbit near the outer edges of rings or within gaps in the rings. The gravity of shepherd moons serves to maintain a sharply defined edge to the ring; material that drifts closer to the shepherd moon's orbit is either deflected back into the body of the ring, ejected from the system, or accreted onto the moon itself.

6. The patchwork surface of Miranda.
Miranda's surface is indicative of intense geologic activity during its past. Most likely triggered by tidal heating at a time when its orbit was more eccentric than currently (due to a 3:1 orbital resonance with Umbriel).

7. Orbit of Triton.
Because of its unusual retrograde orbit, Titan is believed to be a captured moon, most likely a Kuiper belt object that came too close to Neptune.

8. Pluto and Charon.
I don't know what you want me to say about these two. They're two large Kuiper belt objects that form a mini binary system, with the barycenter somewhere in between them. The system is also unusual in that each is tidally locked to the other: Charon always presents the same face to Pluto, and Pluto always presents the same face to Charon.
