Guy Berhault's basis for thinking the stratigraphy of the Earth indicates a young record formed quickly, through a "catastrophe model", rests on so many fundamental misunderstandings of geology it's pathetic, and his explanation for the development of our geological record has been rebuffed on those grounds. Unfortunately, in all of the research I have seen and read, Creationists couch their arguments exactly backward from the reality of the situation (which isn't surprising given the sloppy nature of their reasoning in general).

They assert that "evolutionists" start out with a presupposition and fit the evidence to it. Yet, science is about standing one the veracity of one's data, and the peer review process is about doing so in the face of vicious scrutiny and critique. Presupposing anything, instead of supporting your position with the weight of the evidence, would get you slaughtered in the scientific community.

And what do we find with YEC research? They begin with the presupposition the literal accounting of the Creation as laid down in Genesis is true. Then, they re-interpret existing evidence and twist its meaning to try and fit it to what they want to be true rather than follow the data to its logical conclusion.

Anything which doesn't fit their notions, they latch onto any excuse to discard, while doing everything possible to excuse valid criticisms of their own arguments.

Why don't Creationists use any valid dating methods to back up their "research"? Because Creationist rhetoric has every earmark of being a shell game. To them, it isn't about taking a chance on the data and accepting a fair outcome; it's about making sure they get the outcome they want.

So, Creationists don't use valid dating methods because they would invalidate the conclusion Creationists have drawn in advance.
