What to do with an old Saks Fifth Avenue jacket?

I have a very old (probly 60's-70's) Saks Fifth Avenue leather jacket that is beat up but could be repaired pretty easy. I was about to cut it up for the leather but someone said they're worth a lot. I guess it is vintage and was probably VERY expensive new. Still, do people buy stuff like that? I sure don't want it, I'd look like a cowboy-hippie.
