Handbags: How they came to be

Handbags have been around a long time now. It would be surprising to know that the earliest version of the handbag as we know it today was carried by men, during the biblical era.  In ancient times, small pouches of leather or camel skin were often used by travelers to carry precious items, coins for trading and more.  

There are many hieroglyphs showing early Egyptians carrying leather purses strung around the waist. The next was little purses which were strung attached to the girdle, there were also drawstring purses worn by men where the type of the purse defined the social status of people. These purses were also used to symbolize betrothal through embroidered ones telling tales of love. There were also special sacred purses made to hold relics or scrolls of religious significance. During the Victorian era women wore purses on the inside but they spent hours embroidering it and showcasing their talents to potential husbands. The purse has evolved much and turned into the new age hand bag which is a very popular accessory.

I want to dye the white stitching of a black coach bag black. any ideas?

my husband won a black sateen garnet ottoman coach satchel in a raffle. i like it very much but my pet peeve on anything is white stitching on black. as its a raffle i cant return it and i dont want to sell it. any creative inexpensive ideas? thank u

I'm not exact if this is a question about the Coach bag or the Ottoman. I will answer both just the same. As for the Coach bag, I wouldn't attempt anything on the stitching unless the bag is black leather itself, then you would be able to tediously go over the stitching with a black sharpie...of course using the appropriate tip. Also the couch, if it again is black leather and you want the stitching black, I would carefully go over the exposed stitching with a black sharpie. The were free so what's to lose?
