what style leather jacket is best ?

I am buying a black leather jacket for my boyfriend and need some help. He's 36, usually wears docker pants / polo shirts and I was wondering what style of leather jacket would go best? Open bottom or fitted bottom. And also what length, hip length, waist length? Want to keep him looking good and I'm not sure what would be the best style?

I wear dockers and polos all the time too, for me it's sort of the industry standard for the work I do. Anyways, mine is waist long, open bottom. Sort of like a bomber style, I don't know the proper name.

My wife originally chose a longer one for me, I guess hip or thigh length, I dunno... It was too formal for my tastes.
