DARK DARK CARPETS - what can I do with them?

I moved house recently and the previous owner has put in beautifully expensive carpet throughout, but it's almost black it's so dark. I have chocolate leather sofas from my old house and really cannot afford to replace carpet. I love chocolate orange and rusty reds and caramels and taupe kind of colours but I'm at such a loss....I need inspiration!!

Add a nice modern or oriental type rug in front of the sofa, with accent pieces picking up the colors in the rugs and lighter shades of the browns. Consider a throw and pillows for the couch, for instance...
