I need instructions on this vintage hand warmer...?

Hey, so I have these Vintage Hurricane Hand Warmers, and I don't know how to get them to actually warm up.

There's this cap/cover that's used to pour the carosene into the warmer, and then there's this filter that's put above the spout. Every time I tried to light it with the filter on(it's detachable), the file goes out. If you know how to light these suckers and make them a hand warmer instead of a hand burner that would be great. Thanks in advance.

If the "file" is going out it's because you have misunderstood the item. It's a warmer, not an electronic gadget. Files have nothing to do with it.
