Can leather sandals be worn in all weather conditions if they are treated with a leather waterproofer?

Or should the sandals be kept dry if at all possible regardless, with the waterproofer serving as more of a just-in-case backup protection to prevent major damage?

well my leather rainbows were ruined at the beach when someone splashed me....and i had waterproof protection

so i would say keep them dry and use rubber sandals in the rain/bad weather
