Filming your wedding video

Around certain times of year, mainly around Easter time, we start to have many potential clients ask about our videography services. often asking very similar questions. So we have decided to put all of those questions into an article which will hopefully explain the biggest issues to watch for.
Firstly and I guess most importantly is the budget. Remember you are in charge of the purse strings. So it is important to set a budget and try and stick to it. So once you have selected a shortlist of wedding videographers talked to each one and see if they try and sell you a more expensive package than you originally thought. If that happen just move along to the next videographer on your list. As the wedding video company should be listening to your needs rather than trying to extract as much of your money as possible.
Secondly check the details of those wedding video packages.One of the most popular tricks is to give the impression that two videographers are included by stating that two cameras are included. This actually really means only two cameras, not two videographers. In fact one videographer having two cameras to worry about is far from idea. So you can imagine who weird your wedding video will look, with a remote unmanned camera. You might as well ask the wedding venue for the cctv footage. 
Another big thing to get sorted out straight straight away is who will be actually filming your wedding video. As clients will often presume that the person they meet will be the person filming on the day. However this is rarely the case and more often or not they are actually rather skillful salesmen. With the wedding video company sub contracting out your wedding film or worst still placing an advert in a student jobs website. It is essential that you actually get to meet with the actual videographer prior to your event.   
Next up is the equipmentAgain vigilance is need just like the packages. Often cameras will be described like so "using the latest in broadcast HD cameras" which is highly unlikely as "broadcast cameras" are huge great big things that cost more than a new up-market car. So to cut through all the sales talk ask the wedding video company "When was the release date of your cameras" failing this ask for the actual name of the camera, with the code and everything then google it. Finally it is all a matter of taste and no one want cheese.Ask your short listed wedding video companies to supply real life DVDs rather than showreels. Then check out how many black and white shots (which are actually not black nor white but milky grey) there are, or how many times the shots are stuck together by transitions (white flashes, morphing blurs, etc etc) rather than clean cuts. Because both black and white and tricksey transitions are actually covering up mistakes and after a few watches you will really start to notice. Black and white which appears for no reason is often used to cover up bad exposures and bad colour balance (ie too blue or too orange) and transition are used to cover up bad composition. So a basic rule of thumb is the more you see of either the quicker you will get bored by your film.

Overal it is important to remeber that selecting a wedding videographer or wedding filming service is the same as buying any type of service. Research is key. So that once you have dispelled those nagging doubts you can sit back and relax and really enjoy what should be a great film of your special day
