The Mesmerizing White Koi,

When the Japanese first bred koi fish from carp mutations, they were only available in one or two colors. As they became more and more popular, increased breeding led to a larger range of colors and patterns. Koi fish can now be found in a variety of colors, the most common being red, black, green, yellow and white.

 

If you want to be able to recognize the different kinds of koi fish, you will need to understand how they are grouped into classifications. Each variety will have slightly different standards, but most varieties contain a diverse range of patterns. Some of the most popular varieties of koi are

Hikarimono (or Ogon) and Kahaku, which are white with red markings.

 

Hikari means metallic in Japanese, while Mono means single color. This means these koi are all one single color without any markings. They are also very metallic in appearance and are usually seen in yellow (known as Yamabuki Ogon) and white/silver (known as Platinum Ogon).

No matter what color they are, they should all be one single color from the heads to their tails, as well as their fins. Large fins are popular on Ogon since they offet the simple body.

 

White or Platinum Ogon are unique and popular varieties of koi since their bodies shine similar to precious metal. These gorgeous fish first appeared in 1963 and were probably created from crossing Kigoi with grayish-silver Nezu Ogon.

They are very tough fish and are popular in poorly filtered ponds because they stand out in the dark water.

 

Platinum Ogon are often bred with Ginrin scales as this makes them appear shinier. These scales are different from those found on metallic koi since instead of reflective pigment, they have an overall sheen on the scales, creating a shining diamond-like effect.

To qualify as Ginrin, the koi fish should have more scales like this than is possible to count as the fish swims past; the minimum is about 20 scales.

 

Other common Ogon koi include Orenji and Nezu koi. Orenji koi look like goldfish but can grow to about 36 inches in length. Nezu koi are an older variety of Ogon and is affectionately called Helmet Head because of a dark area in the center of their heads.

 

If you are buying a Nezu koi, make sure the dark area isn't a spot, as this would deter from the quality of the fish! If you have a pond that isn't filtered well, consider getting Yamabuki Ogon koi as they are bright yellow and easy to see in green water.

 

Pond owners love filling their ponds with koi because of the beautiful range of colors they come in. You may have noticed that koi fish are often displayed in round pools and viewed from the top during events in Asia – this is because the majority of the fish's pigment is on the top of its body and they show their best color at this angle.

Is it okay to wear a white and silver dress to someone elses wedding?

I saw this dress and thought it was super cute. Its top is white but the bottom is silver. It goes to my knees. Would it be okay to wear or should I find something else?
Its an outside wedding at night. She said to wear a summer dress.

personally no. the reason i say that is that's the bride's day to shine and for no one else to interfere. how would you feel if someone wore white to your wedding. you'd feel pretty annoyed with that, i know i will. outdoor wedding attire doesnt mean you need to sabatoge the bride's day! wear light colors like a light blue or purple, pink, coral. just don't wear white! it's the same theory with prom as well, don't wear white to prom!
