Zebra Finches appear in many different patterns and colours. Generally speaking, the male Zebra Finch has a grey upper body and wings and a white belly. Their bill and legs are a flame orange colour and there is a cheek patch on each side of its head.

They have a teardrop marker under the eye that can be browned, tan or fawn, but are normally called orange by Zebra Finch fanciers. The flanks or sides situated just below the wings of male Zebra Finches are chestnut-colour (orange) with white dots. And at last, the male's chest is black and white striped such as zebra, hence the name Zebra Finch. The female Zebra Finches also have a grey upper body and wings with a white belly, but their snouts and legs are lighter in coloration than the males'.

Females have a black tear mark under the eye. Some different Zebra Finch varieties include the Fawn, Chestnut Flanked White, Light back, Pied, Black or Orange Breasted and the Black Cheek. Zebra Finches originate from Australia where they live in dried regions and eat up mostly grass seeds. Seeds are also the basic solid food for them in captivity. Nevertheless, offering up your finches fresh food from your kitchen is also a selection. Different single birds will have different likes and dislikes. You can experiment from the variety of food items to see what your specific birds will like to consume.

Try offers those things like assorted veggies, sprouts (alfalfa, etc.), hard boiled eggs (squeezed), lettuce, spinach, bread crumbs, and maize bread. Take a close look at a picture. You'll see that the black stripes comes to an end below the belly and in the inner thighs!!!
They are WHITE cousins of horses with BLACK STRIPES!!!
Their poop has a black appearance on the outside, but if you step in it it's green on the inside.
